OSHA recently shared a story in their newsletter about a company that is a participant in OSHA’s Strategic Partnership Program that communicates exactly why regulations matter.
The construction management company has a policy that requires fall protection at all times for every contractor. One of their contractors objected to using fall protection on an apartment project, saying they never used fall protection in residential construction. But the construction management company insisted that the fall protection was a condition of employment, and the contractor complied, securing his employees to lifelines.
Shortly after the fall protection was installed, three workers fell from near the top of the structure, and their fall protection saved them from injury or death. Needless to say, the contractor is now convinced of the value of fall protection!
