Many of us have friends and family in the areas affected by the recent hurricanes. Even more of us know folks who are helping with the response.
In the wake of a hurricane, response and recovery workers will face numerous dangers, including downed power lines, downed trees, and high volumes of debris. Hurricane response is particularly hazardous because it’s impossible for workers to see what lies under the water in flooded areas.
OSHA’s Hurricane eMatrix provides detailed information about the hazards associated with hurricane response and recovery work. The eMatrix is designed to help employers keep recovery workers safe and offers recommendations for personal protective equipment, safe work practices, and precautions for each activity.
We’re thankful for all the workers who are dedicating themselves to helping hurricane victims. Let’s be sure they’re as safe as possible.
