In the day-to-day stress of work, when schedules are behind and costs are running over, it’s easy to get frustrated at the rules and regulations. If you didn’t have to follow OSHA regs, you could get things done a whole lot faster and cheaper. But remind yourself why the rules exist: to prevent wives from losing their husbands, children from losing their fathers, brothers from losing their sisters, friends from losing the ones they care about most.
The rules exist to prevent death and injury. At the end of the day, no job is more important than the person who performs it.
OSHA keeps a public record of every death on the job that includes the worker’s name and how the death occurred. Whenever you get frustrated at the inconvenience of following regulations, pause just 30 seconds and review the most recent names on the list. You can view the list here.
